About the Counselor
I’m Kara Maher, founder of College Conversation and a college counselor with over 15 years of experience guiding students and families through the admissions process. My background includes several years at a prestigious college preparatory school in Florida, where I’ve helped more than 500 students find a path to their best-fit college. Along the way, I’ve visited over 80 campuses in 20 states and gained deep insight into what colleges are really looking for.
I started College Conversation after seeing a gap in access to quality college advising. Most college advising services cater to families who can afford extensive, high-touch coaching. But that’s not for everyone; many students just need clarity, structure, and a realistic plan, at an affordable price.
While I help students prepare for successful admission at colleges across the country, I offer a special package guiding students through the application process for Florida’s public universities. I focus on these schools because Florida is home—it’s where I live, where my kids will go to school, and where so many bright, hardworking students deserve guidance and support. I’m passionate about helping Florida students (and out-of-state students eager to make Florida home) find success in the Sunshine State’s incredible universities.
